To the only wise God, our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever – Jude 25
We are called here to worship God with an unending doxology. And we are given several reminders of why He is worthy of that worship:
First, we are reminded that our God is the only wise God. There is no other source of perfect wisdom to be found anywhere in the universe. Paul said “in [Christ] are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Colossians 2:3). There are many false teachers and philosophies that claim to have the answers for life, but God alone gives the only wise counsel. And it is found in His Word.
Every word God speaks is wisdom. It is not a mixture of good and bad answers, or wise and foolish philosophies. His Word is Truth (John 17:17)! Therefore, there is no foolishness or failure in Him or in any word He speaks to us.
Second, God is our Savior. The very Judge whose perfect righteousness would justly condemn our sinfulness is the One who also provided salvation for us! Before we had ever committed one sin, before we were ever born, God had planned the way of salvation for us, and He accomplished it through the Person and finished work of Christ.
Verse 24 of Jude reminds us that God’s salvation includes the here-and-now preservation from faithlessness and failure: God keeps “you from falling” and presents you “faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”
This all-wise, saving, and loving God also has all dominion and power! In fact, the writer of Hebrews tells us, He holds the universe together “by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:3). To Him, indeed, be all glory and majesty and power and authority, both right now and forever! What about you? Are you giving Him the proper worship He deserves?
