I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” – Psalm 89:1 – 2
Scripture is filled with examples and declarations of the faithfulness of God. This is a truth that is reassuring to us since we live in a world that is always changing. To say that God is faithful is to say that He is completely worthy of our trust, and this is certainly applicable to God because He has proven it throughout history and continues to demonstrate it today.
Paul reminds us that God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). He cannot lie because He is holy and it is impossible for Him to declare anything but truth or make any promise that He will not keep. Sometimes it may feel as though God has forgotten us, but we must always remember that God works on His own sovereign timetable. We may not see immediate evidence of His promises being fulfilled, but it does not mean that He has forsaken us … He promised He wouldn’t (Hebrews 13:5).
God never promises an absence of trials in our lives, but He does promise His presence. As His children, we are never separated from Him (Romans 8). He keeps us by His power and even uses trials and difficulties to teach us and draw us closer to His side. Having begun a good work in us, we can be assured that He will not abandon it but will bring it to completion. As the great hymn writer Thomas Chisholm wrote … “Great is Thy Faithfulness, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with Thee … “
